It is exciting to realize that two apparently unrelated issues could well be the solution to each other: the global ageing population and the challenge of finding assets that offer attractive absolute return with acceptable level of risk. Institutional investors have found attractive return through buying unwanted US life insurance policies from senior insured, which in turn has helped to pay for some of the living expenses of those retirees hence improving their quality of living.

There is a lot that we can learn from the life settlement market developments in the US and Europe in better understanding the risks and capturing the opportunities of life settlement. We believe a deep understanding in the technical aspects (actuarial, legal and operational) of life settlement and high level of professional integrity are the keys for developing a healthy and sustainable life settlement market that can truly benefit the community.

We were fortunate enough to pull together old friends and colleagues in the actuarial professionals and founded LSA in 2016. We have come together because we are passionate about creating something of great value to the community: pioneering in developing a sustainable life settlement market in Asia offering the right solutions to the ageing communities and capital market participants.

Through partnering with players in the life settlement, insurance and investment industry, LSA has taken an important first step in this journey: launching its first life settlement investment fund in early 2017 with an average annualized return of 12% up to July 2018, alongside of advising a number of institutional investors in Asia on life settlement investment opportunities.

Our Team

Albert Chan

Albert is a qualified actuary and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA). He has over 30 years of experience in the insurance and retirement services industry in Canada, China, and Hong Kong. He had held several senior executive positions as CFO and Chief Actuary, with multinational companies : CIGNA HK, Principal Insurance, and China Pacific Life. Prior to founding LSA, he was CMO of FWD Insurance HK, and Head of Project Management of FWD Group helping to develop the Vietnam and Singapore operations.

Simon Wu

Simon is a veteran financial expert with over 30 years of working experience in Hong Kong and mainland China on banking, insurance and wealth management. He was the branch manager of HSBC (China) Shenzhen branch, General Manager of HSBC Life (China) in Beijing and Senior Management of CreditEase in Beijing. He was also the former chairman of the Association of Shenzhen Foreign Financial Institution and member of the Shenzhen Financial Reform and Development Committee.

Martin Lee

Martin is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), with over 16 years of experience in the banking and asset management industry specialising in the areas of operational risk control and investment operations. Martin had previously worked at various senior positions at Allianz Global Investors GmbH, BNY Mellon Investment Management Hong Kong Limited, ING Investment Management Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Limited. Prior to joining LSA, Martin was Director, Investment Services at Manulife Asset Management (HK) Limited.

Vince Luk

Vince is experienced in marketing and business development in the financial services sector. Prior to joining LSA, he was the Business Development Manager of Lianlian Yintong Electronic Payment, responsible for developing the Hong Kong and Macau markets.

Ringo Wong

Ringo is a veteran IT professional with more than 30 years of experience in life insurance application systems. He had worked in various senior positions at multinational and local insurance companies, such as, Manulife (international) limited, Prudential Assurance Co., and Dah Sing Insurance.
